History of Fulmont Community Church
The genesis of Fulmont Community Church began on a boat on the Great Sacandaga Lake in summer of 1998 as three couples sensed Gods leading to be a part of a "different kind of church". A church based upon the purposes of God, and not on the rules and traditions of people; a church in which those who had either been burned or turned off by church in the past, could come and find refreshment and renewal; and a church in which seekers, skeptics and cynics could come, ask their questions, while being accepted for who they are, and at the same time challenged to discover who the God of the Bible is through Jesus Christ at their own pace.
From these initial discussions these six people and their families, began to meet Sunday mornings for worship and to study the Scriptures, seeking to discover the purposes of God and the Church in the world, as well as to listen to Rick Warrens audiotape series on The Purpose Driven Church, as well as read the book by the same title. Soon others joined and this small group grew into a house church of seven or eight families and a pastor was called and joined FCC in March of 1999 as it moved from the house and into the Holiday Twin Movie Theater in Johnstown, NY.
With no financial backing from any outside source, FCC officially launched on September 12, 1999 as a non-denominational church, as it sent out 10,000 invitations to folks in the community. That initial Sunday 134 people showed up to the "Church For The Unchurched" and the dream was becoming a reality.
In January of 2001 the FCC family, had the opportunity to move into its current location on Harrison St. and began renovating an office/warehouse complex to serve as its permanent worship facility, as well as space to serve the community.
God is blessing Fulmont Community Churchs commitment to the building up people through personal relationships as he is adding to their number daily, those who are inviting Jesus to be the Leader and Forgiver of their life. True-life change is taking place, as these folks are growing in faith and in friendship with one another and with God. As a result, they are making a positive impact upon their spheres of influence in their homes, neighborhoods, workplace and school.
The best days of Fulmont Community Church are yet to come, as we strive together to be a Place to Believe, Belong and be Real.
