Advent Conspirators’ Mission is to reclaim Christmas from consumerism and live out the true meaning of the Christ Child!

Conspirators’ Theme Verse: So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.  And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.   John 1:14  NLT

To combat the commercialization of Christmas, FCC is joining a growing effort among American churches.  It's called the Advent Conspiracy and was started in 2006 by five pastors who decided to make Christmas a revolutionary event by encouraging their faith communities to Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, and Love All.  The response was overwhelming and over 1200 churches participated in 2008!  FCC's Advent Conspiracy runs from Nov 29-Dec 27.  Look for FCC events you can be involved in.  Ask God to show you how as an individual or family you can bless others who have need by giving as God gave His Son to us at Christmas.

Events and Opportunities

Worship Fully!  The miracle of miracles; God chose to live with us to show us how to live and to save us from our sins.

Sunday Celebration services; “The Case for Christmas” growth group; Christmas caroling, Dec 11; read a gospel to remember Jesus was much more than a Babe in a manger; take a friend to a Christmas musical program.

Spend Less!  Buy ONE LESS GIFT and ask God how you can use that money to serve others in need.  When you do this your way of thinking about the birth of Christ changes!

Kids Peace Giving Tree; buy groceries for an elderly neighbor;

buy gifts from fair trade organizations (tradeasone.com); help with Youth Group care package project; contribute to FCC Acts 2 fund.

Give More! God’s gift to us is a relationship – a direct connection through Jesus.  He took time to teach people, to heal the sick, to talk with outcasts and to hug little children.  Time is the real gift Christmas offers and you cannot find it at the mall!

Time to make a gift that becomes a family heirloom; to write a real letter to a friend; to take the kids sledding; to make a meal for another family; to use your skills and gifts to serve someone in need.  Take time to make love visible through relational giving!

Love All! Jesus reached out with His love to touch the last, the least, the lowly, and the lost.  There are opportunities all around us to be more like Jesus in our celebration of Christmas.

Pick up the challenge to share God’s good news by inviting friends to a Ladies Christmas Tea; host a birthday party for Jesus and invite your children’s friends; serve at Life Savers, Salvation Army or your local food bank; Christmas caroling Dec 11.

Worship Fully— We have been missing out.  The miracle of miracles; God chose to live with us to show us how to live.  This is cause for wonderful celebration!  And we get to do this every year!  But, year after year we miss out.  We fill the joyous season with shopping, spending money we do not have, attending functions we do not want to go to out of a sense of obligation and we miss out on Emmanuel—God with us—year, after year.  The Advent Conspiracy is committed to getting out of the mall and into the stable.  We will conspire together to be more Christ like in our celebration of the miracle of Emmanuel.  We will learn how to break from the Christmas mold, this other story of Christmas, the one told by the spirit of Consumerism, and do what our hearts, minds and spirits beg us to do in celebration of Emmanuel.

  Spend Less—Americans spend $450 billion each year.  How often have you spent money on Christmas presents for no other reason than obligation? How many times have you received a gift out of that same obligation?  We’re asking people to consider buying ONE LESS GIFT this Christmas. Just one.  It sounds insignificant, yet many who have taken this small sacrifice have experienced something nothing less than a miracle: They have been more available to celebrate Christ during the advent season. Their way of thinking about the story of Christmas has changed.

  Give More—God’s gift to us is a relationship.  A direct connection between us and Him through Jesus Christ.  He took the time to teach the people, to heal the sick, to converse with the outcasts and to hug the little children who came to Him.  We will find out that time is the real gift Christmas offers us, and no matter how hard we look, it can’t be found at the mall. Time to make a gift that turns into the next family heirloom. Time to write a real letter. Time to take the kids sledding. Time to bake really good cookies and sing really bad Christmas carols. Time to make love visible through relational giving.

  Love All—By spending less at Christmas we have the opportunity to join Him in giving resources to those who need help the most. One less gift. One unbelievable present in the name of Christ.   There are opportunities all around us to be more Christ like in our celebration of Christmas.  Buy one less present, get out of the mall for a short time, and dedicate those resources, both time and money, to doing what Jesus did.
