Fulmont Community Church began on a boat on Sacandaga Lake in the summer of 1998 as three couples sensed God’s leading to be part of a “different kind of church.” A church based upon the purposes of God, and not on the rules and traditions of people; a church where those who had either been burned or turned off by church in the past could come to find refreshment and renewal. And a church where seekers and skeptics could ask questions, while being accepted for who they are, and could discover who the God of the Bible is through Jesus Christ at their own pace.

From these initial discussions, six adults and their families began to meet Sunday mornings for worship and to discover the biblical purposes of God and the Church in the world. This group also listened to Rick Warren’s series on The Purpose Driven Church, and read his book of the same title. Soon others joined and this group grew into a house church of seven or eight families and Pastor John Selert was called in March 1999 as worship services moved to the Holiday Twin Movie Theatre in Johnstown, NY.

With no financial backing from outside sources, FCC officially launched on September 12, 1999 as a non-denominational church, and sent out 10,000 invitations to people in the community. That first Sunday 134 people showed up to the “Church for the Unchurched” and the dream was becoming a reality.

In January 2001, the FCC family moved to Harrison St. in Johnstown and renovated an office/warehouse complex to serve as a worship facility as well as space to serve the community. Greg Meyers was called as pastor in December 2005 and has served with emphasis on relevant biblical instruction, discipleship and growth group ministry.

In February 2017, FCC began the process of purchasing a former Presbyterian church building and moved there to its current location at 16 W. Fulton St. in Gloversville. The first worship service in the new location was on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Fulmont Community Church officially took ownership of the building on June 22, 2017.

Pastor Greg Meyers gave his last sermon as FCC’s Senior Pastor on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Pastor Greg has retired and became Fulmont Community Church’s “Pastor Emeritus.” Pastor Matt McGahen became FCC’s Senior Pastor on June 26, 2023.

God is blessing Fulmont Community Church’s commitment to building people through personal relationships as He adds to their number, those who invite Jesus to be the Leader and Forgiver of their life. Life change is taking place, as people of all ages grow in faith and friendship with one another and with God. As a result, FCC is making a positive impact upon homes, neighborhoods, workplaces and schools in Fulton and Montgomery counties.
